Asylum Structures:
For the purposes of processing asylum applications at first instance and appeals and the co-ordination of services such as reception and accommodation aspects, the Government has put in place a three pillar structure consisting of:
- The Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner (ORAC) (established under the Refugee Act, 1996)
- The Refugee Appeals Tribunal (RAT) (established under the Refugee Act, 1996)
- The Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) (established in April 2001)
